The box and tray are a bit beat up and stained discolored, but are still intact. I'm afraid of going too deep with the cleaning and damaging the piece. All I can do is try to describe it as well as I can and include lots of pictures.

I am unsure just how old the car is, but the middle aged fellow from whom I acquired it said that he'd had it since he was much younger.

It could use a good cleaning, although I briefly wiped the car and the box down it comes in its original box and insert tray. It measures approximately 8. It is a Bachmann ho scale b le Bessemer lake eerie steel covered coil car.
The car seems to me to be solid and in working order. The car does have a few light surface scuffs and small paint chips here and there, but not a lot. I am no expert, but I did not notice anything that screamed out to me as glaring damage.
The car is manufactured by Bachmann. The cover on the car seemed stiff to me and did not seem to move smoothly. It could be I was operating it too gingerly due to the fact that I do not want to break anything.
